The first instalment of HAVANA MEETS KINGSTON remixes has arrived!
Listen to the project's first single 'Carnival' re-imagined on this EP by some of the best electronic music producers in the world. Legendary pioneer OPIUO (NZ/Aus) is here representing glitch with the full force of his unique production abilities, drum'n'bass legends Ed Solo (UK) & Stickybuds (Canada) team up again for an all out jungle party anthem, Austero (Mexico) brings some beautiful downbeat liquid bass to the mix, and GAUDI (UK) brings us a bonafide analog dub (in the traditional meaning of the word), awash with Space Echos, phasers and all kinds of odd circuitry at hand in his studio in London.
'Havana Meets Kingston' as a project and album focuses on older analog recording techniques and 'live-in-the-studio' performances at various studios in Cuba and Jamaica, so it is wonderful now to unleash our music into the more futuristic electronic realm. These remixes are exciting and are definitely pushing boundaries in their respective genres. They are also the perfect addition for DJ's and selectors looking for new arsenal in the glitch, bass, dub and drum'n'bass realms.
'Carnival' was the first single from our Havana Meets Kingston project, a world-first collaboration between Jamaican and Cuban musicians. The original track features vocals by Randy Valentine (UK/JA) and Solis (Cuba) and boasts an all-star dream team from Cuba and Jamaica for the backing instrumental - Sly & Robbie (rhythm section), Bongo Herman (percussion), Bopee (guitar), Changuito (timbales), Yaroldy Abreu (congas), Oliver Valdes (mixed Cuban percussion), Julito Padron (trumpet), Rolando Luna (piano) and Jake Savona (piano and hammond organ). The track was recorded live at EGREM studios in central Havana, the very same studio in which the famed 'Buena Vista Social Club' album was recorded over 20 years ago. 'Havana Meets Kingston' came to life in the space of ten very special days at Egrem where the musicians gathered from both islands to record and collaborate. The first album was released in late 2017 to great critical acclaim and universal praise from musicians and fans alike.
Stay tuned for the second album release date announcement for part 2 of this very special project!
